Customer Reviews:

This is better than Sony, here’s why…5
While I have some reservations about this camcorder, I believe that it is the best mini-DVD recorder for most people.

Briefly: this camcorder is easy to use, can take decent pictures and excellent video at a reasonable price.

Number one on my list was that it needed to be easy enough for my technophobic wife. Operation is as simple as 1,2,3,4: Turn it on, put in a blank DVD, press record/stop, finalize the disc.

There are a plethora of manual controls if you want to go beyond auto mode. You can choose from two manual modes: scn & P. Scn is for an intermediate user who knows what the outside conditions are but isn’t ready to control every aspect of shutter speed, white balance & so forth. There are 8 scn settings, including sports, snow, fireworks and night. The expert user can select P mode and can control even the most obscure settings. I prefer to use auto mode most of the time and when appropriate switch to scn.

Now, inspite of my 5-star rating, the DC22 isn’t perfect. I’m very concerned that one of my kids will get ahold of it and it will be sionara. It is delicate. There is a lot of technology crammed into this small camera. Another gripe is that the joystick is difficult to use. You use the joystick frequently because it is the primary way to navigate the menu screens and change your settings in the function screens. I frequently have to repeatedly press down on the joystick before it will take. While these are major issues, I made my rating based on the competition.

Sony gets the ratings in most magazines. I disagree. Sony camcorder use propietary technology such as the Sony memory stick which you don’t find at every Walmart & Target. Also, the reviews will tell you that the Sony’s that offer still photography aren’t much better than a cell phone. When it comes to the lense & the chip technology, Canon holds its own. And, personally the Canon feels better in my hand. But, you can be the judge of that.

Briefly, about the still quality: It is as good as you can find on a camcorder. However, the colors often appear more vibrant than they really are and the still detail is not as good as even a 3.2 megapixal Canon camera. I prefer the prints over a disposable, but I would rather have a Canon Powershot model for this duty.

Here are some other nice features. It uses mini-SD cards. You should have no trouble finding 1-2 gig cards that will handle 1,000-2,000 stills at one time. It includes a standard usb cable for transferring stills. It includes a cable that does have a proprietary camera end but the other end has standard AV attachments for plugging into a tv or other video device. With this cable you can transfer video data either way. It also has a rechargeable battery that lasts 1 1/2 hours and a power cable that can be used for recharging and for general operation of the camcorder.

As far as the media type, DVD-R, it is the standard. Why would anyone get a mini DVD camera that uses other formats? DVD-R is what will play on your home DVD player. If you recorded on DVD+R or even DVD+/-R DL (this recorder can use DVD-R DL) you would be limited to playing your DVD’s on this DVD player or loading them onto your pc and editing them. If that’s your gig, the editing software is easy to use and can create professional looking event DVD’s.

I recommend this camcorder for most people. If you prefer to edit your videos and create a final product with the highest quality video possible, it is still no match for mini DV players. But lets face it, my wife wants to point and shoot and play it for friends without having to do a lot of work. And the last thing I want to do is sit at a pc for hours going over raw video footage in order to create semi-professional movies. Also, don’t waste an extra $200 getting the DC40. The stills suffer from the same coloration issues so even though it offers 4.3 megapixals, it won’t replace your still camera.
****Revised 1/30/07****
Per request, here is my take on DVD type. I prefer to use DVD-R at the 20 or 30 minute quality. There’s very little difference in quality. However, if you attempt to record at the 60 minute/per disk quality, you will notice a difference. It’s easy enough to change DVD’s during filming. Just open it and stick a new one in. It takes 10-15 seconds before you can begin recording again, so you probably won’t miss much. The reasons for choosing DVD-R over DVD-RW and DVD-R/RW DL are cost, durability and universality. DVD-R disks will play in any DVD player… not so with the DL disks. You will need a Dual Layer compatible player. DVD-RW degrades more particularly if you erase and re-record. The surface is softer because it is made to be burned to, erased and re-burned. Therefore there is a greater risk of data loss. Now you might wonder about erasing useless video and/or editing. If I want an edited video (which I usually don’t), I would copy the raw footage to a pc and then edit and burn a new (preferably full-size) DVD-R.

HORRIBLE! Canon should be ashame of themselves1
Received this item as a gift, was so thrilled to have it for the kids first day of school. Luckily I was playing around with it the day before and found out what a piece of crap this camera is. I recorded and then tried to finalize and found that the amera could not read the disc – amazing since it s the canon one that they even provided with the camera!! Then I lost everything I recorded. So, I tried 3 other dvd-r discs — which are not cheap and the frikin camera could not read those either. What a piece of crap — lost everything. I read the manual and even called the Canon people — all they were able to tell me is geesh, that is not supposed to happen. I can only hope 6th ave. will accept the return tomorrow. Please stear clear of this item, unless you like to record things and only see them once and them loose them.

The Roxio software is a bit tricky to use.4
I am just learning to use this camera. I loaded the supplied Roxio MyDVD for Canon software on my computer and plugged in the USB cable. When you go to the video capture screen it says that this version of the software, MyDVD LE, does not support image capture. After a few phone calls back and forth with the Canon service center (in Virgina, not India which is nice), we found that you should NOT go to video capture. Duh, you have to click on DVD_Video and then on top, “Open Disc”. This will read the disc in the camera via the USB cable. Oh, and you should finalize the disc before doing this as it might not work otherwise. It is probably faster to put the mini-disc in your computer’s DVD drive if it has one. But don’t forget to Finalize the disc in the camera before doing this.
The camera itself has been working well. Tonight I’m going to try out the Fireworks mode to see how that works.

Record direct to DVD For those fun family moments that seem to never end, the DC22 DVD camcorder gives you the convenience and versatility of recording directly onto both single-layer and dual-layer DVD discs.

Only 3 inches (8cm) in diameter, DVD-R/-RW format single-layer discs can store up to 60 minutes of video and are compatible with most DVD players. Using a dual-layer DVD disc, however, the DC22 also gives you the ability to record close to two hours of once-in-a-lifetime memories direct to DVD!

Imagine capturing every moment of your child’s school play or concert without having to worry about changing the disc in the middle of the action. It’s all thanks to the DC22′s dual-layer recording system, which uses 3-inch DVD-R/-RW dual-layer discs to record almost double the time (XP=36 mins / SP=54 mins /LP=108 mins). From curtain rise to curtain call, the DC22 puts extended recording power right into the palm of your hand.

The DC22 automatically records over blank disc space too, so you don’t have to worry about losing precious shots. In addition, the DC22′s DVD functionality makes it possible for you to review your footage quickly and easily without the bother of rewind or fast-forward searching. With the camcorder’s Visual Index, you can review your footage at a glance and play the selection you want. You can even select shots and arrange them into a play list. It’s like editing your video right in your camcorder!

What’s more, the finalization process for these DVDs is quick and easy. It’s just one more reason why you’ll love recording direct to DVD with your DC22.

Convenience in a compact size The DC22 truly is one of the world’s smallest and lightest DVD camcorders. Its unique, super slim design makes it easy to operate, carry or put in your coat pocket. One-touch buttons and an electronic lens cover also make one-hand operation a snap, while the DC22′s two-tone color exterior adds to its elegant appearance.

One-hand operation Even though the DC22 comes packed full of advanced video and photography features, it remains incredibly easy to operate. This is because the camcorder has been designed for one-handed operation. The main control buttons are all positioned for effortless manipulation by the hand holding the camcorder, thereby requiring no assistance from your other hand.

Canon DC22 highlights
Widescreen recording means that you get the big picture, every time

Widescreen HR recording The DC22 records true high-resolution widescreen for picture-perfect video. Canon’s Widescreen HR Mode uses the entire width of the image sensor, capturing true 16:9 widescreen.

So why is the way you record widescreen images so important? Because you want an image made for widescreen, not adapted for widescreen. Widescreen is the future — every HD television is widescreen.

The story of how we do it may be a bit technical, but the result is clear to see. Canon camcorders use the entire width of the image sensor to capture your precious video in true 16:9 format. What difference does this make? It’s simple. With more pixels captured, you get better image quality. Other camcorders force the wider picture into a smaller space on the sensor — giving you a less than true image, with fewer pixels and lower quality. With high-resolution recording on a Canon camcorder, the canals of Venice will be as grand as you remembered seeing them.

The viewfinder of your DC22 displays the image in a “letterbox” view — from side to side and top to bottom, what you see will be what you get. No guessing and extra work when looking at an image that’s distorted like a fun house mirror. Not only that, but the DC22′s big, 2.7-inch LCD screen lets you see exactly what you’re recording without compromising ease of use. With its lightweight, ergonomic design and one-touch controls ideally located at the rear of the camcorder, the DC22 gives you true one-hand operation.

The DC22 also lets you show your great Widescreen HR video on a standard television in letterbox format.

Plus, to make it even easier, a Widescreen button lets you switch from standard 4:3 to 16:9 Widescreen mode at the touch of your finger. The widescreen feature can also be used in both Program mode and Easy Recording mode, as well as with the camcorder’s advanced image stabilization.

Why shouldn’t your camcorder shoot as wide as your widescreen TV? It should. The DC22 gives you the opportunity to own a camcorder that shoots as wide as your widescreen TV. And our competitors can’t match the widescreen video you’ll get from your Canon DC22.

You want your memories to last forever — that’s why you’ve taken the time to shoot them. And you want to shoot in widescreen format to get everything you can out of your new widescreen TV or home theater system. Remember — widescreen is the future — be sure you invest in that future with a Canon camcorder.

Canon optical performance Brilliant optical quality is part of every Canon broadcast lens, 35mm film camera, digital camera and camcorder. The DC22 digital DVD camcorder is no exception, offering you the same Genuine Canon Optics that has made the name Canon synonymous with unsurpassed optical performance.

The DC22 comes with a 10x optical zoom lens that has been precisely matched to the camcorder’s CCD. The lens features high-quality glass with a unique, super spectra coating developed exclusively by Canon to reduce flare and ghosting for a clean image. Combined with the DC22′s powerful 200x digital zoom, the lens gives an impressive range of focal lengths. Use a shorter focal length to record the breathtaking backdrop of your summer vacation. Or, use a longer focal length to capture the delight on your child’s face during the school play.

Wide-angle and teleconverter attachments For more creative flexibility, the DC22 can be enhanced with an optional 0.7x wide-angle attachment or an optional 1.5x teleconverter attachment — giving you an even greater range of focal lengths. The result? More impressive landscapes, wildlife shots and action close-ups.

Ensure a crisp, clear picture with Canon’s optical image stabilizer

Image stabilization The DC22′s built-in high-quality image stabilizer features Smooth Zoom and Level Shot control for rock-steady video — whether you’re shooting sporting events, fun and games at a child’s birthday party, or capturing a shot at a long focal length. Thanks to Canon’s expertise, the DC22′s image stabilization system corrects camcorder shake instantly, thereby eliminating one of the telltale signs of amateur video.

Stunning digital photography With the DC22′s advanced photo features, you get both a digital video camcorder and digital still camera, all rolled into one. Just like an advanced digital camera, the DC22 lets you choose the metering mode and scene mode that’s right for your subject, or lets you shoot with Auto Exposure Bracketing.

For control over depth of field and capturing motion, you can shoot in either Aperture Priority or Shutter Priority mode. High Speed Shutter is perfect for shooting on bright, sunny days. 9 Point AiAF (Auto Intelligent Auto Focus) keeps your subject in sharp focus. You also get Motor Drive mode, image effects, and built-in flash with red-eye reduction. The DC22 even comes with simultaneous photo recording for capturing still images while shooting video.

2.2-megapixel CCD The same 2.2-megapixel CCD that ensures sharp, vivid video also gives you brilliant digital photographs.

DIGIC DV Because Canon’s exclusive DIGIC DV signal processing circuit processes video and still images differently, you get uncompromising image quality for both. Video and still images have different color requirements and DIGIC DV technology processes the two signals accordingly. That means digital photos are maximized for viewing on computer monitors and as prints. DIGIC DV is just one of Canon’s technologies that help to unleash the performance potential of the DC22.

9 Point Ai-AF Auto Intelligent Auto Focus ensures sharp images and gives creative flexibility. Even when your subject isn’t in the center of the frame, the DC22′s AiAF will bring it into sharp focus.

Auto Exposure modes Like any good digital still camera, the DC22 lets you choose from a range of exposure modes. Auto mode automatically sets the exposure, letting you concentrate on your subject. AV (aperture priority) lets you control depth of field by letting you choose the aperture. TV (shutter priority) lets you select the shutter speed for sharp, action shots. In P (program) mode, the camcorder adjusts camera settings automatically.

Metering modes For advanced photographers — and videographers — the DC22 gives you a choice of metering modes. Depending on lighting conditions and your subject, you can choose between: Evaluative, Center-weighted average, and Spot metering.

Image effects The DC22 lets you choose from the following effects to add creative flare to your photos: Vivid, Neutral, Low-Sharpening, Soft Skin Detail, and Custom.

Continuous Shooting mode With this mode, your DC22 operates like a camera with a motor drive, for rapid fire shooting at 2.5 frames/second (1632×1224) or 3 frames/second (1280×960). It’s perfect for fast-action sports, or even faster kid-action!

Auto exposure bracketing To capture the perfectly exposed shot, even under tricky lighting conditions, Auto exposure bracketing lets you automatically capture three photos — one at normal exposure, one underexposed, and one overexposed.

Special scene modes A wide selection of automatic exposure modes makes it easy to capture great photos — and video — under any conditions. Portrait mode ensures shallow depth of field for a pleasing background to your shots of friends and family. Sports mode stops the action with faster shutter speeds. Night mode is designed to give you great shots after the sun goes down. Snow and Beach modes compensate for bright surroundings and give you the proper exposure on your subject. Sunset mode results in vibrant, well-exposed colors for one of the toughest subjects to capture. Use Spotlight mode when your child is on stage and in the spotlight — literally — and you want to make sure the exposure is right for them. And, Fireworks mode records brilliant images of another tough subject: the holiday fireworks display.

Photo Review button This feature is a quick and easy way to ensure you got your shot.

Simultaneous photo recording Capture e-mail ready digital photos to a memory card while you record video.

Red-eye reduction Reduce red-eye for beautiful photos of friends and family.

Stitch assist Stitch assist software lets you create an impressive panoramic image from a series of still images. Simply capture your panoramic scene in more than one image, and then download the images into your computer. Stitch assist aligns and crops the images into a single, ultra-wide panoramic photograph.

Canon DC22 highlights
Create panoramic photos with the stitch assist software

Brilliant video The DC22′s powerful 2.2-megapixel CCD features an RGB primary color filter for incredible detail and vivid, true-to-life color similar to 3CCD camcorders. Plus, the DC22 offers Canon’s exclusive DIGIC DV image processor, which processes video and photos differently for exceptional color and clarity.

The DC22 even lets you shoot brilliant video in the darkest conditions with a bright video light. The new Level Shot Control feature gives you a horizontal marker in your viewfinder to help you keep your camcorder level, and a marker to help center your subject. And Smooth Zoom Control ensures smooth, steady zooms automatically — for professional looking video.

2.2-megapixel CCD One of the reasons the DC22 delivers stunningly vivid video and still images is its razor-sharp 2.2-megapixel CCD. This performance is then combined with Canon’s advanced RGB primary color filter. Other camcorders process color using a standard CMYG filter, resulting in duller colors. Canon’s RGB filter separates light into its red, green and blue components resulting in natural-looking tones and vivid hues. Together, these two technologies ensure that images are captured with outstanding clarity, giving you brilliant image quality to match the camcorder’s brilliant DVD functionality.

DIGIC DV Because Canon’s exclusive DIGIC DV signal processing circuit processes video and still images differently, you get uncompromising image quality for both. Video and still images have different color requirements and DIGIC DV technology processes the two signals accordingly. That means your video images are maximized for viewing on monitors and for projection. DIGIC DV is another of Canon’s technologies that help to make the DC22 an exceptional performer.

Low-light performance Some of the most magical shots are taken at the end of the day or long after the sun has set — and you won’t miss any of them, thanks to the DC22′s built-in video light. It allows you to keep shooting in low-light conditions, so you never miss a beat.

Audio excellence To match the brilliance of its video image quality, the DC22 records audio with Dolby Digital Stereo. That ensures a complete movie theater experience in the comfort of your living room of the vivid memories that you captured for your friends and family.

Share your video The DVD technology of the DC22 not only makes it easy to capture great images, it also makes it easy to share your video with family and friends.

To begin with, you can simply watch the video you’ve just shot by connecting your DC22 to your TV and viewing your unfinalized DVD. Or, finalize your DVD, then watch it on your TV by playing it in your DVD player. (Your DC22 comes with both S-Video and Composite output.)

You can also share your video by connecting your DC22 to your computer with the supplied USB cable. Then, with one touch of the Print & Share button, you can transfer your video footage to your hard drive.

Once your video is transferred, the supplied Roxio MyDVD software lets you edit your footage, create a chapter and play menu, and burn your footage to additional DVDs. Plus, even if your computer doesn’t have a DVD drive, you can still make DVDs to share by using your DC22 to create another DVD.

Share your photos Your DC22 comes with a variety of features that make it fast and easy to share your still photos.

Print & Share Print & Share turns your DC22 into a photo lab in the palm of your hand. Simply connect your camcorder directly to select Canon printers or any PictBridge-compatible printer with the supplied USB cable. Then, with a simple touch of the Print & Share button, you can print directly from your DC22 without going through a computer.

Print & Share also makes it easy to transfer your still images to your computer. Simply connect your DC22 and your computer, press the Print & Share button and your photos are downloaded to your computer.

miniSD memory card You can also share your photos, thanks to the camcorder’s miniSD memory card. Popularly used in today’s newest cell phones and half the size of a standard SD card, the miniSD Card offers the benefit of high-capacity storage in a very small size.

Roxio My DVD software With your camcorder’s Roxio MyDVD software, you have everything you need to get the most out of the video you shoot.

The software supplied with your camcorder enables you to edit your video, including every extra minute of your family’s summer vacation or child’s school performance shot on Dual Layer discs. This way, you keep just your most precious shots and can let them tell the stories you want to tell. You can then create Chapter & Play menus so you can access and play just the video you want to watch. Then, it lets you burn DVDs so you can share the captured memories with all your friends and family.

Roxio MyDVD software also makes it easy to share your video with its one-touch dubbing feature (available only with Windows XP). With one touch of a button, your video is automatically captured to your PC and dubbed to a DVD. No one has to wait long for their copy. Or, if your PC isn’t equipped with a DVD drive, the software lets you capture your video to your computer and then burn a DVD using the camcorder itself.

Great Scope5
I bought this scope and mounted it on an M-4 carbine (used a 1 inch UTG Deluxe See-Thru Riser Mount) and it works great. The long eye relief allows quick target acquisition and the picture is clear. I have not used, and probably won’t, the illumination feature. I have not had the scope long enough to tell about zero retention and durability, but for people like me who don’t shoot in cold, wet or foggy weather, this is a great little scope at an amazing price. This is what you need if you are an old near sighted guy who when using iron sights would either have to decide between seeing the target or the sights.

Customer Reviews:

You get what you pay for?3
For the price, it’s difficult to find fault with these binoculars. Tasco is evidently trying hard to make a high-value product (not just a toy) at an extremely competitive price. They are light, small, reasonably solid, and for the price I never worry about taking them into situations where they might get a little wet or a little mechanical abuse (e.g., bumps or scrapes).

So these would be a great choice for occasional or emergency use (e.g., to throw in a glove compartment or emergency bag, or to take hiking or backpacking), when having a small, lightweight, relatively high-power set of binoculars would be beneficial.

If you’ll be using these for extended periods of time, I would encourage you to keep looking. The eye relief isn’t great, so if you wear glasses you won’t be able to see the full field of view. Also, and it could just be my pair, mine do not focus very sharply (spherical aberration?), especially at larger distances.

Also, be aware that these are probably best for active outdoors activities (hiking, hunting, etc.) in bright light — if you can put up with the extra weight and cost, you might be better served by a pair with larger effective aperture and corresponding exit pupil (e.g., 10×42 or even 10×50) for pursuits like astronomy or (more sedentary) birding. This is not a criticism of these binoculars; they are designed to be 10×25, so the only thing I might complain about is the transmission of the AR coating, but that’s simply not fair at this price point.

If you do get a pair, do some thorough field testing as soon as you get them, and return them if they don’t suit your expectations.

Three stars may be too tough on these, but they’re just not good enough optically to warrant more. Still, especially given their price, they’re a whole lot better than nothing in a pinch.

Good disposable emergency travel binoculars3
Good disposable emergency travel binoculars

I bought these binoculars to leave in my SUV as an emergency backup when I forget my excellent Nikon 7216 Action 8 X 40 Binoculars. They are much lighter and smaller and I can leave in my map holder on the door or even in my pocket and forget I even have them which leaves the old saying binoculars are only good if you have them with you. And that’s where these binoculars shine they are very tiny and very light.

They do bring things in close and after a little bit of focusing and adjusting width you can make things out if you have plenty of light. The little case they come with is pretty decent as well.

Now for the bad parts. The eye relief is pretty bad, you will have to prop your eye glasses above them and or remove them to use. Also they are pretty dim which of course a lot of cheaper 10×25 binoculars are. The strap is a small little string that does the job but is pretty thin. But hey for the price go ahead and purchase a couple one for your coat pocket and one for your vehicle oh and maybe one for your camera bag.

These would be a great pair to have children learn on as if they drop or abuse them its no big deal.

Pros:

Nice case
Super small size
Super light weight
Disposable price tag
Great learning binocular to hand to small children

Cons:

So so focusing
Just Ok low light ability
Just Ok optics
Not water tight or resistant

Verdict:

Purchase as disposable emergency travel binoculars and or as a toy for children to learn birding with and no more.

12-3-2008 Update:

Went to the store and tested a lot of different small bincoulars trying to find a pair that are almost as good as my Nikon Action 7216 8×40′s and found the perfect one. If you need small and want a good view and a good price get the Nikon 7508 Travelite 8 X 25mm V Binoculars. They are: light (8.9 oz), fit the hand well are well made and very bright in the viewfinder for their size.

From The Manufacturer
Tasco’s best-selling Essentials line balances optical performance and quality construction, offering an affordable way to add a pair of high-quality binoculars to your household, pocket, or suitcase. The handsome, rubber-armored housing not only absorbs shock and protects them from bumps and bruises, it adds in a weather resistance factor should it decide to rain–or snow–at the big event.

With extra-powerful magnification, these compact binoculars are ideal for glassing long distances or examining small details.

  • 25mm objective lens
  • Roof prism system
  • Field-of-view (at 1,000 yards): 288 feet/94M
  • Features: Rubber fold-down eyecups, black rubber armor, carrying pouch and neck strap
  • Weight: 9.2 ounces

Tech Talk

  • Magnification: Magnification is indicated by the first number given. For instance, “7x” means that you will see an object seven times closer than if you were viewing with the naked eye.
  • Objective Lens Diameter: The objective lens diameter is indicated by the second number (e.g., 21mm), which indicates how much light is able to enter the binocular. The larger this number is the better your sight will be in lower light conditions.
  • Roof Prisms: Roof prism binoculars are streamlined and compact because they utilize trim roof-shaped prisms to elongate the light path. Roof prism binoculars are usually more expensive than equivalent porro prism models.

    Quantity vs. Quality2
If you’re looking for a camcorder that can produce vivid colors and crystal clear picture, stop reading this review now. This camcorder is not for you.

If you can live with a medicore picture quality, but have the ability to virtually pocket a camcorder anywhere you go, read on.

    The Styling:
No doubt, this camcorder exudes sex. Glossy finish with chrome accents. Bling! The styling is very appealing and will demand attention. The physical size is so small, it can be pocketed in a pair of jeans. However, the dimunitive size is also its disadvantage. Stabilizing the camcorder with one hand was a challenge due to it being so light and small. The physcial shape of the camcorder was very awkward to hold. Many times, the index finger would partially cover the lens during taping. It was just natural for the index finger to overlay on top of the lens. The zoom button is positioned for a thumb activation. However, when the thumb is re-positioned to employ the zoom button, the grip on the camcorder is compromised. The user will feel like the camera will drop from their hands when using the zoom button.

    The Picture:
Outside daylight recording is acceptable. Color re-production is decent. There were still some slight noise in the image. However, there was an un-acceptable amount of purple fringing. This can be seen when recording a dark subject against a bright background. For example, point up at tree branches against a cloudy grey sky. The edges of the branch glows purple.
Indoor recording with common household lamps was littered with noise and poor contrast. The overall picture was very grainy. There were no details in black objects. For example, a black leather chair just shows up as a black object with no other details such as wrinkles or texture.

    The Audio:
Audio recorded in 16 bit sounded very good. Voices were clear and with faithful reproduction. However, at times, the microphone was able to pick up the actual tape winding mechanism of the camcorder. It was a constant high pitch whine that can be heard during playback. This is most likely due to the fact that the camcorder is so small that the distance between the microphone and the tape motors are minimized. The same condition was exhibited during the usage of the zoom button. Loud clicks can be heard during playback as the zoom button snaps back.

    Conclusion:
This is definitley a case study of Quantity vs. Quality. There is a price to pay for ultra portability. In my opinion, the size of this camcorder has reached the point of diminishing returns. In other words, the camera is too small to be ergonimically correct. The size also compromised the audio and video performance. Buy it to impress your friends……just don’t let them watch the final result.

Start Recording Now!Absolutely Excellent Video Recording Packed In An Incredibly Compact Size!4
The Sony DCR-PC55 MiniDV Handycam Camcorder w/10x Optical Zoom is aboslute one of the best MiniDV Camcorders on the market. Even at its original retail price, Sony has packed so much technology into that sleek design that it’s truly an amazing gadget. Another feature that I totally loved about this Handycam was that the instructions for use were made clear and operating the camcorder is almost as simple as taking photographs. And you don’t at all have to worry about being a professional-the Sony DCR-PC55 MiniDV Camcorders computer will help you out. I tend to have a small shake in my hand when I am holding an object for an extended period of time. After I took my first videos, I assumed that when I played it back I would notice the small movment. To my total surprise, this amazing Handycam with 10x Optical Zoom knew that my hand was shaking and immediately compensated for it. To me, that was a feature that was worth a great deal of money in itself.

There are plenty of great features, more than you’ll ever need-but everything you need just in case you want it. My neigbor borrowed it on a trip to Hawaii and apologized over and over as they had left it on a patio and it was exposed to about 30 minutes of light rain. They were ready to buy me a new one and I told them the only change in the camera was that it looked at little cleaner! It’s not intended to be placed in water, however I discovered (after researching it on the Sony website) that the body of this small but mighty camcorder is sealed in a manner that keeps it somewhat resistant to the elements.

I did a great deal of research and many comparisons. I spent time online and then went to 2 different electronics stores where I could hold and visualize the camera. I fell in love with the compact design and how comfortable it felt in my hand. Since I did plenty of research, all I had to do was wait for a sale and immediately I made the purchase. When I opened the box I had everything I needed to start shooting photograhs, just after I ready the easy instructions for use. They even provide additional support online that answers questions that might not be addressed in the booklet that is included. Sony stands behind this product and has a toll free customer service number if you have any questions or need support that you couldn’t find online. They offer a great warranty and my research on returns is basically that there are not that many.

I hope that this review was somewhat helpful. As I mentioned, there is a ton of great information that you can review. When I’m buying something I always appreciate the opinions of others who have actually purchased the products. Typically, I do my own research and THEN I like to read a review that reminds me that I am making a great purchased. Again, I hope this was helpful at least in part!

The Sony Has It All For You!!!5
Pros: Compact, lightweight, portability, easy to use, big screen, good reproduction

Cons: Microphone sensitive to wind, getting used to not having a viewfinder, bad low light performance.

Summary: I picked this camera as an upgrade for my old Canon ZR10. The first reason I chose it was the small size and portability. With a good light conditions, this little beast do its best shots, but in low light conditions this camera disapointed me (specially compared with mi old ZR10). Please don’t buy it if you have plans to use it for stills shots because it has a low resolution.

The included handycam station have all the ports (Firewire, USB, power, video) you need to conect it.

The big touch screen is a must, because the screen is the only way to access the camera controls (besides some of them in the edge of the screen).

You can have a camera with more characteristics and better image quality for the same price, but if your concern is the size and portability this will be your best choice in the world of the mini DV format.

    Customer Reviews:

    Very nicely made5
Strong velcro, and nice, strong stiching, make this a bargain. Not like some cheap imported cases.

    Love Crumpler System5
These pouches are IDEAL for just about anything that fits. They come in various sized, but I only buy the XL. I first found these small pouches in a camera store in a huge bin about six or seven years ago. I bought three of them. I still own two of them — the third was stolen together with my GPS. I use them for small point and shoot cameras, GPS, and cell phone storage. These cases last forever. The velcro sealing system last forever. I have never, ever had a problem with them. I just re-ordered two of them from Amazon (to replace the one that was stolen with the GPS in it) as I wanted a spare just in case as they are getting harder to find.

The cases are very well cushioned, and I do not hesitate to store anything fragile in them. Not sure what else to say except if you have a portable GPS, or a point & shoot camera you want to protect, get this case. These cases also have a velcro belt loop but I haven’t used this feature as of yet.
Inside, the case is extremely well padded, and in the flap there is a small flat pocket for an extra memory card, or a couple of batteries.

    An amazing product overall.

    Attractive “extras” bag4
This is a very attractive little bag, exceptional in details and workmanship. I use it for my cell phone when running around town, just attach to my purse strap. When out shooting photos, I use to to carry extras such as blower, batteries, etc. It’s rugged enough that I just add to the outside strap. It is NOT big and you should carefully review the size before ordering – the only reason I give it 4 stars. Was not quite the size I expected when mine arrived but quickly found other uses for it and it is in daily use for me.
